10 To make installation of the parking-brake-lamp body a bit easier, temporary removal of the headlight switch is a good idea. Simply push the release button on the side of the switch to pull the knob free, then unscrew the switch retainer. Access to the headlight-switch wiring for the warning buzzer will also be necessary. | 
11 The lights-on warning-buzzer housing does not need to be grounded to operate, but it should be secured to some part of the metal dash so the "buzzing" of the metal box will be amplified. Since no one will see it, a couple of heavy-duty tie wraps get the job done without trying to drill a mounting hole deep within the dash. | 
12 To work properly, both the red lead from the lights-on warning buzzer and the black wire with the ring terminal from the parking-brake warning light need to be connected to the rear stud of the ignition switch. Remove the 7/16-inch nut, slip the two wires over the stud, then secure the nut (with the key off). |
13 The seatbelt warning light requires a key-on voltage source to illuminate the light when the key is turned on. We found such a source in this yellow three-way splitter on the left side of the dash near the fuse box. | 
14 To work properly, the seatbelt warning-light relay, which turns the light off after around 30 seconds, must be attached to a clean chassis ground. Though the shop manual shows the relay mounted on the brake-pedal support, we simply attached it to this dash ground screw after gently bending the mounting bracket. | 
15-a The lead that picks up the voltage sensing from the headlight switch has a crude, yet workable, "wire tap" crimped onto the end of it. It was attached to the red-with-yellow-stripe wire (for headlights only) or the solid black wire (for parking lamps and headlamps). |
15-bThe terminal was squeezed with pliers to pierce the insulation, then the rubber sleeve was folded over and closed to protect the circuit. | 
16 The parking-brake warning is activated by this contact switch, which was pushed by the roll pin pressed into the parking-brake mechanism. Slide the contact switch over the parking brake and align the switch with the roll pin so the pin pushes the switch closed when the brake handle is in the released position. Our switch was a bit sticky from sitting in a box for 38 years. A shot of contact spray freed it up. | 
17 It's time for final testing before reassembling the dash cluster and steering wheel. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and the seatbelt warning light should illuminate for 20-30 seconds, then shut off. |
18 To check the parking-brake warning light operation, leave the key in the ON position and pull out the parking-brake handle to engage the brake. The warning light should illuminate. Then, after a few seconds, the bulb will begin to blink. If the bulb does not blink, it may have been replaced with a standard bulb. Purchase a 257 "flasher" bulb to make the light flash correctly. | 
19 We installed this dealer-accessory vanity mirror for the missus. The original vanity mirror design was bare glass with sharp corners, and Ford superceded the part number with this design encased in plastic and with rounded corners. We want her to be safe, so we'll argue that this style of mirror could have been purchased from the Ford dealer and installed years down the road. | |
